The Maestro's Secret

The Five Sentence Fiction prompt is "Empty"...

The tabletop is crowded with wine glasses. Over them hovers a tall man in a tuxedo with tails. From their brims his long fingers draw the strains of a familiar tune: Ode To Joy. After the applause, a slip of a girl makes bold to ask him: "Maestro, what is your secret?"

"Dear child," responds the man in mellifluous tones, "the water in each glass is important, but more important is the emptiness - that's what does the singing."

  8. Loved the dichotomy which is being pictured here. Depending at which way you look at, life can be a sweet melody, or be one which is flat. It all depends on what and how you fill your life with,

  9. Insightful observation on life - it's usually in our moments of starkest emptiness that we strive most to create. That's my experience, anyway. Well done!!
